Some time last year I hatched a plan to cycle from Wolverhampton, where I live, to Warmenhuizen, where I’m from, to celebrate my 30th birthday and to raise funds for Sustrans’ National Cycle Network. I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently, looking at different routes, deciding when to go, what (and who?) to take.
I’ve decided to have a 30th birthday party on my actual birthday at my parents’ house, for old times’ sake. I recently found out I have a wedding not long before, so I have 6 days to for the whole of my journey. Because of that, I’ve settled on a 4 day ride to Hull, a ferry to Rotterdam and a 2 day ride to Warmenhuizen (using the North Sea Cycle Route), arriving on the Friday, ready to party on Saturday. Should be fun!
Of course I should probably do some training. I rode 40 miles in June and 46 miles in September 2012 but that is probably not going to enough. So I’d like to explore 4 corners of England and Wales, bit by bit. For example:
- Wolverhampton – Shrewsbury, then Telford – Chester – Colwyn Bay – Anglesey
- Bristol – Gloucester – Worcester/Droitwich – Telford
- Avenue Verte (Newhaven – London)
Because this is all pretty new to me, and I like to write things down anyway, I will be taking you along on my journey of discovery – figuratively speaking.
What I’ve written so far…
